Pennies and Diapers Making Change

Rena and Caspar Babypants

School’s almost out! What better way to celebrate summer than by lending a helping hand to others in the community? Read on for some great ways you and your kids can volunteer to make a difference for kids and parents around Seattle.

Kids Helping Kids Coin Drive Contest
Benefits Wellspring Family Services to help homeless kids in Seattle and King County

Pennies are no small change…not when they add up to over $500 and are donated to help homeless kids in our area. A local 6-year old named Rena did just that and provided the inspiration for this kid-powered coin drive/contest. Together with local kiddie rocker Caspar Babypants, Wellspring Family Services is asking kids in our area to start their own coin drive this summer. Their website offers lots tips and instructions for ways kids can collect the coins…lemonade stands, birthday party donations, and more.  Register online to get your kiddo started now. Every donation received by Sept 1, 2010 is a chance for your child to win their very own original song by Caspar Babypants (aka Chris Ballew of The Presidents of U.S.A.).  Find out more.
Help A Mother Out Diaper Drive
Benefits needy families via WestSide Baby and Eastside Baby Corner

Help A Mother Out is hitting our area for a diaper drive at The Little Gym in Bellevue, Issaquah, and West Seattle. Bring a box (or more) of diapers to the participating Little Gym’s on Saturday,  June 5th from 2-4 p.m.  for free play time, door prizes, and goodies for the kids.  Diapers are one of the most appreciated items by parents in need as they are usually not covered by food stamps or other public assistance programs. Can’t make the event? You can still help parents out by donating diapers, money, and other baby items directly to Eastside Baby Corner or Westside Baby.
